Deep History Podcast
A History Podcast

History is weird.
Let's talk about it.

Two history nerds. A favorite local setting. Obscure bits of facts, rambling but mostly coherent dialogue, and an unhealthy obsession with the stories that got left out of the textbooks.

About the show

History doesn't have to be
boring. We promise.

Deep History started the way most good things do — two people sitting around, going down rabbit holes, and realizing that the stuff that actually happened is way more interesting than whatever they taught you in school.

"We choose what we like. Only the best topics for our audience — obscure, strange, and usually a little ridiculous."

We don't have a formula. We don't do structured academic breakdowns. What we do is pick a topic that's fascinated us, dig into it way more than is probably healthy, and then talk about it at our favorite local spot until someone cuts us off.

New episodes drop regularly. Mostly coherent. Always fun.

Lee Carter
Co-host & the one with the opinions
History enthusiast, passionate arguer, and the person most likely to spend three hours researching a footnote. Lee brings the deep dives and the slightly too strong takes.
B
Bob Foster
Co-host & keeper of the timeline
Equally obsessed with history, considerably less obsessed with getting the details right. Bob Foster brings the ridiculousness, the tangents, and the occasional "wait, I thought that happened in France?" He's the reason the episodes run long — and also the reason they're fun.

Why Deep History?

Look, there are a lot of history podcasts. Here's what makes ours different (and we're clearly unbiased).

The weird stuff
We actively seek out the history that got left out. The footnotes, the embarrassing incidents, the stories that were too strange to make the main narrative.
§
Two actual friends
Lee and Bob Foster have been having this exact conversation for years. The podcast is just us finally recording it. The chemistry is real because we're not performing it.
Mostly coherent
We will go on tangents. We will argue about things that don't matter. We will come back around eventually. It's the journey, not the destination.
No agenda, no prerequisites
This is a hobby. A passion project. You don't need a history degree or to have heard a single episode. Just show up — we're not selling anything, we're just two people who think history is genuinely fascinating.
A favorite local setting
We record at our spot. You can probably hear the background noise if you listen closely. We consider that atmosphere, not a production flaw.
